Born in Sweden and raised in Austria, Patrick has been studying art since he was a child. His mother, Dagmar Ceska, is an accomplished artist who as a child was selected to study at the Berlin Conservatory of Art. She later tutored under the direction of Dr. Karl Zerve, Professor of Art at Florida State University. Patrick's uncle, Antonine Hanyck, is a critically acclaimed self-taught artist in the Czech Republic.

Patrick studied art at Bundesgymnasium in Baden, Austria, then at Florida State University, in Tallahassee, Florida, and most recently at the Quinlan Museum here in Gainesville, Georgia.

Patrick has been compared with American contemporary realist painter Andrew Wyeth, but he shies from these comparisons. Painting offers him an escape from the quick pace of life because it forces him to slow down and examine a subject. "I see the infinite details in architecture and landscapes when painting. I lose myself in the process and enjoy the challenge of painting, especially painting with watercolors."

Watercolor is his medium of choice because, "you can't control what happens; the paint and water offer surprising results sometimes. There is a freedom to working with watercolor."
