Dorothy
Laz (pronounced Vaz) has been painting for eight years with feverish
intensity. She’ll tell you painting is her “life's blood.”
While prolific, she has obvious talent and technical skill. Her
work has been collected by museums and galleries and has been exhibited
proudly in many collections around the world. She has participated
in 30 exhibitions in Poland and foreign countries including:
Centre
of Culture - Mielec, Poland
Krakow
- Poland
Rzeszow
- Poland
Polaniec
- Poland
Makaczewo
- Ukraine
Saint
Martin - France
Morlaix
- France
Her works are in private collections in Poland, England, France
United States, and Canada.
Dorothy studied art at WSP (Higher Pedagogical School) in Krakow.
Her first exhibition in 1994, titled Hanging Bridge, included 25
paintings made with pastel technique. In 1997 Dorothy received the
Distinction on Display award from the KBWA in Krakow. In the same
year she was chosen to go to Mukaczewo (Ukraine) as artist in residence.
In 1998 she founded a new Association of Artists in Mielec, whose
membership has grown rapidly since its founding.
When
it comes to subjects for her work, Dorothy paints everything - portrait,
landscape, and still life. "An apple on the tablecloth"
are equivalent objects for her. She wants us to see the wonderfulness
in common things. For Dorothy, flowers are never treated as decoration
of interior. They are always in the foreground. She considers paintings
of flowers and trees to be as portraits rather than photographs
of landscapes.
"Painting
is the rest for me. It is my work, my need and I am sure I could
not live without my painting.” |
